Brace Yourself
It seems that almost everyone is getting braces. The reasons more people are wearing braces include the growing emphasis on health consciousness and self improvement; more people with insurance coverage; and advances that make braces much more esthetically pleasing. An improved smile enhances self-confidence, which carries over into all aspects of your life.
Orthodontic problems also should be treated because they affect dental and general health. If teeth are out of position, they are more difficult to clean, thus increasing the risk of cavities or gum disease. A poor bite may make chewing difficult and lead to problems with facial muscles and jaw joints. Protruding teeth are more easily chipped and fractured. A bad bite also can result in excessive wear of the tooth surface.
Today’s braces are a great improvement over the metallic look of the past. Thinner and stronger wires are now used to lessen the treatment time and discomfort. In some cases, miniature tooth-colored and clear ceramic brackets may be sued to blend in with the teeth and can be put directly on the teeth with adhesives. Elastic or wire bands can blend with the tooth color, or you may choose from a variety of “hot” colors.
We would be happy to discuss whether braces can help you.
